As the festive season nears, some of us will bring out and use old treasured pieces to help celebrate the holidays. Others, who want new ideas or want to freshen up existing décor, will scan magazines and watch for the holiday idea line-ups on TV. There are many other resources you can use to get a new and fresh approach to holiday decorating.
Retailers have set out their holiday displays with new merchandise arriving almost daily. Major chain stores can offer a good quantity of specific items, but when it comes to unique themes, check out the small businesses. They go the extra mile and select some interesting and unique themes not to be found at the chains. They all give you an idea as to what is available that you may want to purchase, but don't stop there.
Some really creative and workable ideas can come from the seasonal craft fairs in your neighbourhood. Most have a minimal entry fee, if any, and you are sure to walk away with all kinds of treasures- gifts for family and friends, food to tempt and décor items that can quickly help you update your look.
If you want to see what the decorating and design professionals are doing this year, plan on attending some of the charity events that they many be participating in. In Vancouver, there are two major events that are not to be missed.
The 2006 Kids Help Phone will be having their 6th annual Vancouver holiday fundraiser Homes for the Holidays over the November 25th and 26th weekend, from noon to 5 pm. You will get a chance to tour many houses where interior designers have worked with homeowners to create a truly festive feel. As you see the work of these professionals, it will help you to visualize what your home may look like. If you are a do it yourself kind of person, the inspiration is worth the time invested. If you want the help of the professionals, it is not too late to ask. For more information about this event, call 604-267-7057.
Interior decorators, stagers, and design and décor businesses are supporting the Canuck Place Children's Hospice at the Sutton Place Hotel, Home for the Holidays Event in downtown Vancouver. This event starts November 21st and runs until January 2, 2007.
